The following are the highlights from US Federal Reserve member Robert Kaplan today, Thursday:

I believe that the US economy will grow properly during the third and last quarter of this year, but the recovery of the economy will not be clear due to the return of the Corona virus outbreak.

Interest rates will remain low until we make further progress on the inflation target and price stability.

Both monetary and fiscal policy are tools for managing the current health crisis.

Wearing face masks may help control infection from illness without the need for closure procedures, except in specific cases.

One area where aid has not been effective is aid to SMEs.

We are concerned about the growth of US government debt and the implications for the American economy.

The US Federal Reserve's asset purchase program has controls, and may have an impact on the US dollar.

We don't want to do more than what is needed right now.

I am concerned about the possibility of controlling the yield curve.

A higher inflation rate above the target for a while will not be a bad thing.
