White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on Tuesday that China continues to buy US goods, especially primary commodities, with the first phase trade deal signed by the United States and China in January, despite growing tensions between the two countries over Hong Kong and other issues.

Kudlow was asked whether the deterioration of ties between the world's two largest economies on other fronts might result in the trade agreement being thrown out the window, to which he replied, "No, no."

"The only area we're communicating in is trade ... and it's fine for the time being," he told reporters at the White House.
