Sterling jumps after comments from Bank of England governor
The British pound jumped against the euro and the dollar on Tuesday after comments by Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey about the viability of negative interest rates dampened some expectations of sub-zero interest rates in Britain.
Pelly said on Tuesday that there were "a lot of problems" with cutting interest rates below zero and that such a move could hurt banks.
The pound, which is already benefiting from improved risk appetite, rose 0.7 percent to $ 1.3620 by 1555 GMT.
It rose 0.5 percent against the European currency to 89.49 pence per euro.
