Dow holds steady at open as surprising job growth unleashes inflation
The Dow Jones Industrial Average settled at the open on Friday after data showed an unexpected jump in US job growth in January, fueling inflation fears, limiting the impact of support provided by Amazon's business results at the end of a volatile week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 15.4 points, or 0.04%, to 35,095.74 points.
The index and the S&P 500 index opened up 5.4 points, or 0.12%, to 4,482.79 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index increased 79.7 points, or 0.57%, to 13958,482 points.
