Dow Jones rises more than 250 points
US stocks rose in Wall Street trading on Thursday, and technology stocks outperformed, adding to the gains of the previous session that led to new records.
The S&P 500 index advanced 0.3%, achieving its sixth record close since the beginning of this March. While the Nasdaq Composite Index rose by 0.2% to close above 16,400 points for the first time in its history.
The Dow Jones Index rose by 0.7%, equivalent to 270 points, to close above 39,700 points for the first time in its history.
Micron technology shares jumped 16% thanks to strong earnings and headed for its best day since December 2011. This news lifted the semiconductor sector, with Nvidia rising.
Intel added more than 1%, while Taiwan Semiconductor shares rose 2.5%.
Apple bucked the broader uptrend for the technology sector, with its shares falling 4% after the Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against the iPhone maker.
Shares of the social media company Reddit rose more than 40% above its initial public offering price in its market debut.
