US stock indices varied at the end of today's session
Stocks in the United States closed mixed at the end of trading on Friday, as gains were recorded in the telecommunications, technology and financial sectors. On the other hand, losses were recorded in the oil and natural gas, consumer services and public institutions sectors, which led the indices lower.
At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.32%, reaching its highest record level within a month, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose by about 0.16% and the Nasdaq Index fell by about 0.03%.
Among the leading stocks today in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD), whose value rose 2.66%, or 7.12 points, to reach 275.07 at the close. On the other hand, 3M Group shares (NYSE: MMM) continued to rise at 1.67%, or 1.63 points, to close at 98.96, while Verizon Communications Company shares (NYSE: VZ) increased 1.51%, or 0.60 points, to 40.39 at the end of the session.
As for the weakest performance at the end of today’s trading, Nike Inc. (NYSE:NKE) shares closed down 2.64%, or 2.47 points, and traded at 90.92 levels at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) shares fell by 1.52%, or 2.76 points, to a price of 178.49, while Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) shares closed down by 1.07%, or 2.02 points, to a price of 187.48.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Standard & Poor's 500 index was recorded by Mettler-Toledo International Inc (NYSE: MTD), which rose by 17.25% at a price of 1,513.03. Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ: GEN) also continued its rise. At 15.34% and closed at 23.46, Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) stock rose by 6.09% and ended its trading at 314.10.
Among the weakest performing stocks today, we mention Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), which fell by 11.00% and closed its session at 91.19, Insulet Corp (NASDAQ: PODD), which lost 6.55% at 165.90, and Moderna Technology shares. Vitality (NASDAQ:MRNA), which weakened by 4.39% and closed at 117.31 in today’s session on the stock exchange.
