Wall Street stock market indices closed mixed sessions on Friday, March 22, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell at the end of the session, but the week's trading was its best during the year after successive record-setting sessions.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 305.47 points, or 0.77%, to 39,475.90 points.

The S&P 500 index closed the session down 7.35 points, or 0.14%, to the level of 5234.18 points.

On the other hand, the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 26.98 points, or 0.16%, to the level of 16,428.82 points.

All three major indexes posted healthy gains this week, with the S&P 500 up 2.3% and the Dow Jones up 1.97%, its best week since December. The Nasdaq was the best performer of the three, jumping 2.85%.

“It's a period of digestion after a really strong week,” Truist co-chief investment officer Keith Lerner said of Friday's moves. “Our view is that the overall trend remains positive for the market, especially when you see this breakout to new highs, on track for a fifth straight month of gains.”
