Energy companies drop US stocks at the open

Wall Street's main indexes opened slightly lower, with energy companies falling as investors are absorbing recent gains thanks to bets on economic stimulus and an acceleration of vaccine distribution, ahead of a long weekend.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 9.9 points, equivalent to 0.03 percent, to 31,420.8 points, and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell by 4.7 points, or 0.12 percent, to record 3,911.65 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 46.6 points, or 0.33 percent, to 13,979,213 points.
