Nasdaq jumps at the open as tech stocks re-rise
Major US stock indices opened higher on Wednesday, as signs of an effective Covid-19 vaccine boosted hopes for a faster-than-expected economic recovery, with technology stocks rebounding after suffering sharp losses this week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 103.43 points, equivalent to 0.36 percent, to 29,524.35 points, and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index increased by 17.69 points, or 0.50 percent, to record 3563.22 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 102.79 points, or 0.89 percent, to 11,656.65 points.
